Dixie RelicsDixie RelicsThis model bayonet was to be used with an Augustine Jager Carbine. The Augustine Jager Carbine was developed by Vincenz von Augustine who was the principal inspector of the Viennese Arsenal. The Habsburg army wanted to convert their flintlocks to percussion and he was one of the inspectors who made the change possible. Due to the bayonet’s size it could also be used as a short sword. There was a short period of manufacture of these bayonets and they did see some use during the American Civil War. The blade measures 23 ½” and the socket is 4 ¼”. The socket has a locking ring that is tight. The bayonet has a flat spine with spear point that encompasses a double edge blade on the last 6 ½”. Inspection marks are present on both sides of the shank;”. The shoulder is marked with a "P” and then an "X” with two notches below. Overall the bayonet has a dark patina. The scabbard is awesome which you never ever see.
